Le Kaefferkopf

Cru Prestigieux d’Ammerschwihr

At the southwest of Ammmerschwihr several hills are spread out at the foothills of the Vosges , high of 240 meters to 320 meters.

Superbly sunny, this area and denomination is the pride of ours vineyards. Le kaefferkopf is famous for its soil of clay and chalk in one part and clay and sand in one other. From this special area are produced wines of a taste of terroir.

 
Already Known in 1328 the "Zem kefersberg" this area got more fame all along the centuries .A wine tasting survey was saying in 1866 that the vines from Kaefferkopf produced fine wines very researched on the wine market.
By a decision from the Syndicat Viticole d´Ammerschwihr, only the grape variety Gewurztraminer, Riesling , Tokay d'Alsace ( as known as Pinot Gris) and Muscat are allowed to be planted on the kaefferkopf area and so , get the "Appellation d´Origine kaefferkopf"

Also, on "Assemblage" of these grapes varieties told above and grown on the kaefferkopf, is accepted in the denomination

 

Today , the Kaefferkopf in on area of 63 hectares (22 acres) and the only one having its proper denomination in Alsace.
